Alpha lipoic acid is a potent antioxidant having the unique property of being both water and fat soluble. This enables it to be easily concentrated in blood, cells, tissues, and extracellular fluids (space and fluid between cells).

It is easily absorbed and works with antioxidants already present inside cells to reduce cellular damage from free radicals. It also regenerates glutathione, the cell’s most important antioxidant.

Alpha lipoic acid enhances antioxidant effects of vitamin C, vitamin E, and NAC. It is protective of liver function and helps remove toxins from the body. It is also protective of nerve tissue and has been shown to reverse diabetic nerve damage. It enhances oxygenation of tissues and immune function. It protects tissues against elevated glucose.

Suggested dosage: 50-300 mg twice daily.

Side effects: Some people experience reflux with alpha lipoic acid and do not feel well when taking high doses.
